Robert Joseph ‘Joe’ Hammill, 69, of St. Simons Island, GA, passed away June 23, 2012 at his residence.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. William Catholic Church, 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 27, 2012, with Rev. Monsignor John A. Kenneally officiating, with inurnment to follow at a later date. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at their residence, 102 Whitefield Ave., St. Simons Island.

Active Pallbeares will be Capt. James H. Hammill, USMC, Brian E. Rainey, Charles Wood, John Hammill, John ‘Jack’ Welch, Brian Mallon, Richard Pelletier, and Robert Hockwald.

Mr. Hammill was born December 26, 1942, in Massena, NY, to James Henry and Mary Ruddy Hammill. He had lived in Glynn County, Georgia for the past 32 years, and was a member of St. William Catholic Church. Mr. Hammill had served Glynn County as a County Commissioner for 2 years, served with the Georgia State Senate from 1988 until 1992, graduated from John Marshall Law School, served as Glynn County Magistrate Judge, and has been practicing law in Glynn County for the past 18 years. He was a member of the Georgia Bar Association, served on the Board of Directors for S.H.A.R.E., was a member of Bennie’s Red Barn Raccoon Club, and was the former owner and operator of Brunswick Surgical Supply.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary, a son, Capt. James H. Hammill USMC (Carrie) of Camp Lejeune, NC, a daughter, Mary Catherine Rainey (Brian) of Brunswick, a brother, George Hammill (Suzanne) of Massena, NY and several nieces and nephews, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, James Hammill and Aurthur Hammill.

Memorial Donations are requested to Coastal Youth Symphony of Georgia, P.O. Box 603, Brunswick, GA 31521.
