CLAYTON — David W. Podkowka, 29, of 34718 County Route 4, was sent Tuesday to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, following his arrest by village police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies on a felony charge of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Bail was set at $5,000 by Clayton Town Justice Clarence F. Giles Jr.

Clayton police said Mr. Podkowka is accused of forging a check stolen from Bobbie Jo Garnsey, Clayton, and of cashing it Saturday for $190 at North Country Express, James Street.

He also has action pending on a charge of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance cited May 28 by Alexandria Bay police.
