Pepsi Dips Jones Tire, splits with Weston’s in Grasshopper Baseball doubleheader

Ogdensburg Pepsi secured a well-earned Kiwanis Senior Grasshopper League win over Jones Tire on Tuesday evening after splitting a doubleheader with Weston’s Collision on Monday.

Pepsi 5, Jones Tire 3: Outfielders Donnie Baker and Matt Rector and shortstop Cale Sargent kept Jones Tires batters in check after pitchers Ethan Baldwin and Justyn McCormick fanned seven batters combined. McCormick carried the big bat offensively with a triple, a double and a single. Mitchell Brenno and Cale Sargent each produced key singles for Pepsi.

Jack Cote, Hunter Lira, and Michael Pray played excellent defense as Andrew Woodard pitched very effectively. Jack Lake provided Jones Tire offense.

Weston’s Collision and Ogdensburg Pepsi split a doubleheader on Monday evening. Ogdensburg Pepsi earned a 8-5 win in game one and Weston’s took the nightcap 12-6.

Grant LeBeau belted a homerun backing up Ethan Baldwin and Justyn McCormick’s 12 strikeout effort in the Pepsi win. Cale Sargent rapped a triple and a single and Baldwin added a RBI single. Weston’s showed fine spirit cutting a seven-run deficit to three in the fifth.

Evan Calkins lead off with a walk, Trent Weston stroked RBI single and Ethan Burwell and Noah Steele reached on walks followed by a Colin Trathen three-run triple. Dawson Marino and Collin Trathen fanned four batters for Weston’s

In game two, Weston’s scored several runs with two outs in the second inning. Ethan Burwell started the two-out momentum shift with a single and Noah Steele connected for an RBI triple. Trenton Weston and Collin Trather (3 RBIs) each singled to score runners for a 5-1 lead. Brennan Harmer lined a single in the fourth to go with a previous double which spurted a seven run inning.

Harmer closed on the mound combining with Dawson Marino and Collin Trathen for a five strikeout effort. Tanner LaPiene caught a missle off the bat of Matt Rector in the fourth inning as the defensive play of the game.

For Pepsi, Cale Sargent had two singles while Justyn McCormick produced a triple in the fifth, a double in the second and reached on a fielders choice in the third. McCormick and Burwell fanned 10 batters for Pepsi.
