SANDY CREEK Officials with the Oswego County Fair are looking forward to nice weather as they prepare for its 155th year.
Months earlier, the Oswego County Fair Association had to cancel its annual snowmobile races because of an unseasonable lack of snow.
We put in a lot of work for that, and in that case, Mother Nature didnt cooperate, Carol M. Sweeney said.
Early forecasts for Sandy Creek during the weekend call for sunny and warm conditions, something Ms. Sweeney said she was very excited about.
She said she and other organizers had been planning for this year since last years fair wrapped up.
Every year were amazed ... here it is, she said.
Among the new additions this year is a large display recognizing the areas history during the War of 1812, featuring period clothing and food.
Also on display during the fair will be a history of the Rail City museum, including several antiques from when it was in operation.
The fairs theme this year is Happy Birthday, America, and organizers are planning to commemorate Independence Day with a large cake.
Organizers also were able to add a second fireworks display this year, with shows scheduled for dusk today and on the fairs final day Wednesday.
Also coming in this year are three prize winners from the fairs baby contest in 1932, including 80-year-old twins who won that years competition.
Ms. Sweeney said the fair has held a baby contest every year since 1887.
The fair will run from today through Wednesday at the Sandy Creek fairgrounds.
