North country plans Fourth of July events

NORWOOD - Fireworks may be the main event on the Fourth of July, but St. Lawrence and Franklin counties will be celebrating Independence Day with a wide-variety of events throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.

Morristown will host its fireworks display at dusk on July 3. Independence Day activities kick off with the parade, which will feature the Morristown, Ogdensburg, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Edwards-Knox and Gouverneur marching bands at 10 a.m.

At 11:30 a.m., the field day begins, with a chicken barbecue, concession stand, antique tractor pull, children’s games, 50/50 drawing and more. Tickets for the 50/50 drawing are on sale now and may be purchased from any member of the fire department. Tickets will also be sold during the parade, with the drawing will be held later that afternoon at the field day.

In Norwood, the village’s 77th annual Fourth of July celebration will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday when Norwood’s own Brass Firemen will entertain on the Village Green. Following the performance, a huge block dance with legal beverages, food, games of chance, and live music will begin at 9 p.m.

Fourth of July events begin at 1 p.m., with an 80-unit parade that ends at the firemen’s field on Morgan Street, where games and rides for children, a demolition derby, lawn mower races, waterball tournament, horse shoes and more await.

A concession stand with bread dough, cotton candy, sausage, or traditional hamburgers, hotdog and french fries will be available.

Fireworks will be at dusk.

In Massena, St. Lawrence Centre will host its annual Independence Day Celebration with events kicking off at 3 p.m. and ending with the fireworks display beginning at 10:15 p.m.

A schedule of events follows:

3 to 6:30 p.m. - Free Skate Rentals, SLC Arena.

4 to 10:30 p.m. - Mr. Ding-A-Ling Ice Cream Truck.

4 to 9 p.m. Breezy Maples Farm Pony Rides.

4 p.m. - St. Lawrence Centre Line Dancers will perform in Center Court.

4 to 9 p.m. - Sports 5 in 1 Combo Bounce House.

5 to 7 p.m. Cubby T. Clown & Co. face painting and balloon animal making.

5 to 7 p.m. - Massena Rescue Squad and Massena Volunteer Fire Department demonstrations.

5 to 9:30 p.m. Outdoor Concert featuring musical performances by Made in China, Into the Black, City by Nightfall, and 14 Knuckles Later.

10:15 p.m. - Annual Fireworks Display by Majestic Fireworks.

Most events will be held in the north mall parking lot in front of Olympia Sports with the exception of the fireworks display.

In St. Regis Falls, the annual Fourth of July Parade begins at 11 a.m., starting at the laundromat.

The St. Regis Falls Volunteer Fire Department’s annual field day begins at 11:30 a.m. with a chicken barbecue at the firehouse. The field day will include vendors, children’s rides by B & D Entertainment, bounce houses, a puppet show, Drew Crew Cloggers, Belly Buttons the Clown, Bingo and a D.J. from noon to 4 p.m.

The band ,Premonition, will perform from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the bus garage. There will be a food stand with hot dogs, hamburgers, fried bread dough, cotton candy and popcorn. Legal adult beverages will be served.

Fireworks will begin at dusk.
