MASSENA - A Massena man was held in the police lockup overnight awaiting arraignment after he provided police with a false name when he was being processed for a shoplifting arrest.

Village police charged Timothy F. Trimm, 38, of 187 Center St., Massena, with false personation, second-degree forgery and petit larceny Saturday evening after he and a co-defendant shoplifted merchandise, including two 24 packs of Bud Light and a 12-pack of Twisted Tea, from Price Chopper.

Trimm identified himself at the time of his arrest on the petit larceny charge as Chris F. Chapion, 37, listing the same day and month of his own birthdate, when he was booked on the petit larceny charge. He also the completed the booking process by signing Mr. Chapion’s name on his fingerprint cards.

Joseph A. Rousaw, 38, of 808 County Route 39, Massena, was also charged with petit larceny in connection with the shoplifting incident at Price Chopper. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Rousaw had been charged by village police with posession if a hypodermic needle following an incident at 9:35 p.m, Friday at 187 Center St., Trimm’s address.
