Parishville-Hopkinton hires high school principal

PARISHVILLE - The Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District has a new junior/ senior high school principal.

The board of education voted unanimously Monday night to hire Robert Stewart at a salary of $88,500. Mr. Stewart will also serve as the school’s athletic director, according to board of education President Ward Remington.

Mr. Stewart currently serves as a middle school principal in the Malone Central School District and previously served as a middle school principal in the Norwood-Norfolk Central School District. His experience, his ideas for student and parent outreach and his ability to view the issues made him the best candidate out of three interviewed Monday night, Mr. Remington said.

“He seemed to be a very well-rounded package,” Mr. Remington said.

Mr. Stewart had announced his resignation as the Norwood-Norfolk middle school principal in October 2008. He started work as the middle school administrator in Malone in January in 2009.

Norwood-Norfolk Central School Superintendent Elizabeth Kirnie had described Mr. Stewart as a popular and effective principal andnoted he had designed thedistrict’s middle school.

He will be replacing Michael P. Fellion, who has served as Parishville-Hopkinton’s high school principal since the fall of 2009. Mr. Fellion replaced outgoing Principal Darin P. Saiff, when he became the district’s school superintendent on Nov. 2,2009.

Mr. Fellion had worked as an alternative education teacher for Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES from September 1998 to June 2004, and spent two and a half years as the student coordinator/acting principal for Franklin-Essex-Hamilton Board of Cooperative Educational Services. He was primarily responsible for enforcing the BOCES code of conduct for students in career and technical education and special education, alternative education and the GED program.

He spent the second semester of the 2006-07 school year as the special education principal for the Malone Central School District.

Mr. Fellion has served as the adult education instructor for Franklin-Essex-BOCES since September 2008 and has also been the regional summer school principal at Franklin Academy, Malone, for the two summers before taking the adminstrative post at Parishville-Hopkinton.
