GOUVERNEUR A Potsdam man accused of assault with a wooden stick was arrested at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday by Gouverneur-based state police.
Codey A. Royce, 22, of 38 Ames Road, Potsdam, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree robbery and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Mr. Royce was allegedly captured on video demanding items from Uncle Toms Head Shop, located at 1435 County Route 24 in Gouverneur, then hitting employee T.J. Mashaw shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday. Mr. Mashaw was hit in the head, the right hand and the left forearm with a wooden stick, troopers said.
Mr. Royce then left the shop and discarded the items in the area, troopers said.
He was arrested and taken to county jail. His bail was unknown, troopers said.
