Chase Mills-Morris H. Putnam Jr. passed away on July 1, 2012 at the St.Regis Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family. Morris was born on February 18, 1933 in Ann Harbor, MI, the son of Morris H. and Helen (Peters) Putnam. Morris proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 -1956.

Morris started work on the construction at the St. Lawrence Seaway, following the completion of the Seaway he went to Alcoa and later at Reynolds Metals, retiring in 1992, with more than 40 years of service. He married Jean M. McCargar Spriggs on August 26, 1979 at the Emmanuel Congregational Church in Massena. Mrs. Putnam passed away on November 8, 2007. He was a long time member of the Emmanuel Congregational Church, 25 year Club at Alcoa-Reynolds, F&AM Masonic Lodge # 513, Scottish Rite, a member of the Media Temple Shriners, American Legion Post #79; he was a volunteer for Hospice for many years. Morris enjoyed working on small engines and he owned and operated Green Acres Lawn and Garden in Chase Mills. Morris survivors include his children, Paula and husband Rande Nezezon of Massena, NY: Catherine and husband Brad Mott of Massena; Marlene Silver ofMassena, NY: Michael and wife Donna Putnam of Wallkill, NY:Thirteen grandchildren, David Layton of South Glens Falls, NY: William Sheets of Massena, Brenton Johnson of Potsdam, April Lajeunesse-Osborne of Bristol, VT, Angela Sheets of Plattsburg, NY, Rachael Mott, Tyler Mott, Nicole Silver, Ian Mott and Michelle Mott of Massena, Danny Putnam and John Putnam, both in the US Navy, and Michael Putnam who is in the US Coast Guard; five great-grandchildren: a brother and two sisters, Ronald Putnam of FL, Carol Koken and Nancy Putnam both of FL. At the family’s request, memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Congregational Church Memorial Fund, Hospice and Palliative Care of the St Lawrence Valley or Toys for Tots, St.Lawrence County, 522 East Hayward St, Ogdensburg, NY 13669. Funeralservices will be held Friday July 6, 2012 at 10:00 am at EmmanuelCongregational Church with Rev. Judith Van Kennen officiating. Intermentwill be in Louisville Community Cemetery with full military honors. Friends and family may call Thursday (July 5, 2012) from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. The Masonic Lodge F & AM # 513 will hold services Thursday evening 7:30 pm at the funeral home. The American Legion Post # 79 will hold a memorial service on Thursday evening at 8:00 pm at thefuneral home. Online condolences may be made to www.phillipsmemorial.com.
