State Sen. Patty Ritchie's re-election campaign has revamped its yard-sign design.
This is no trifling matter — the hook, my friend, the hook, is that it speaks to a larger truth.
In 2010, when she was the St. Lawrence County Clerk, the Heuvelton Republican used a license plate that said "PATTY" to illustrate disgust with New York state government (as a cash-grabbing measure, David Paterson's administration proposed requiring New York drivers to get new, orange license plates. County clerks, including Mrs. Ritchie, successfully fought that effort Her yard sign was modeled after the previous license plate version).
But an incumbent doesn't really have the "throw the bums out" weapon at his or her disposal. So the Ritchie campaign is going with a new catchphrase: "She looks out for us," the new yard sign says.
Mrs. Ritchie is running for re-election against Democrat Amy Tresidder, an Oswego County legislator.
