MASSENA - The Massena Country Club crowned its 2012 mens champion this past weekend at a two-day tournament that also served as the qualifier for the 6-man and 8-man teams slated to compete at upcoming summer events.
Justin Tyo, a standout golfer at Massena Central and St. John Fisher College near Rochester who is currently a student at the Boston University School of Management, emerged as the overall leader after following up an opening day round of 75 with a 74 to finish at 149, just one stroke ahead of Max Pelifian, who put together back-to-back rounds of 75 for a two-day total of 150. Pelifian will again serve as team captain this summer.
Rounding out the six-man team that will compete at the Northern New York Championship tournament are Tom Post (75-76 151), Matt Supernault (76-76 152), Anthony Viskovich 75-78 153) and Lenny Garrow (79-75 154). Also qualifying for the eight-man team were Garvis Bogosian (77-79 156) and Tim Ahlfeld (79-78 157).
Don Labaff will represent the Massena Country Club as the Senior Representative after posting a 151 (73-78) this past weekend while Omer St. Louis secured the spot as the Super Senior Rep with a score of 157 (80-77).
Massena will play host to this years NNY Mens 6-Team Championship August 3-4. The last time the Massena Country Club staged the tournament 10 years ago, the host team came away with top honors.
The 8-man team tournament is to be held at Links OTay in Perth, Ontario, July 27-28.
