POTSDAM Canoe Place Grill and Pub is now open at 5726 Route 56, offering American food along the Raquette River.
The new restaurant is a joint venture between two husband-and-wife teams: Jason A. and Teressa Rutkauskas and Jeffrey and Kayc Stone.
Mr. Rutkauskas grew up in Potsdam and moved in 1996 to Maine, where he met his wife. They owned a bar in Maine and have since moved to Potsdam looking for a place to open a restaurant.
Everyone in my family has been in the food industry at some time, Mr. Rutkauskas said.
The building overlooks the Raquette River, making it a perfect location for a restaurant, according to Mr. Rutkauskas.
I dont think theres a better spot, he said.
Shore Lounge previously occupied the building, which used to be the Shoreline Restaurant.
Before opening the restaurant June 14, the new owners spent about two months renovating the building.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Fresh, homemade food sets Canoe Place apart, Mr. Rutkauskas said. The menu offers primarily American fare with a focus on pasta and seafood.
The restaurant does not yet have its liquor license, but it should be ready to begin serving alcohol within two weeks, Mr. Rutkauskas said.
