MASSENA — Mrs. Lena M. “Tina” Pelkey, 82, of 67 Stoughton Ave, passed peacefully at her home on Friday afternoon, July 6, 2012. She had been in failing health for the past several years.

Lena was born October 15, 1929 in Massena, the daughter of the late Napoleon and Margaret LaClair LeBeouf. She attended Sacred Heart School. On October 4, 1948, she married Kenneth Pelkey in Charlotte, North Carolina. He predeceased her September 19, 2007.

Lena was a homemaker and worked at one time as a cashier for Ames and Jamesway. She also worked in the housekeeping department at the Highland Nursing Home and for Dr. Bedros Bakirtzian. She was formerly active in the Bethel Assembly of God and the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Lena was also a member of the Moose Lodge, the Fiddlers Association, and the Massena Senior Citizens. She and her late husband were avid campers. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, birds, flowers, and spending time with her family.

Lena is survived by her four children, Kenneth and Karen Pelkey, Rita Lister, and Kathy and Tim Taylor, all of Massena, and Rodney and Darlene Pelkey of Louisville; her grandchildren, Crystal, Ross, Danny, Rodney, and Ashley; her great grandchildren, Zoey, Zephor, Dylan, and Parker; her sister, Helen Laraby of Potsdam; her brother, Albert and Mary LeBeouf of Boise, Idaho; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant son, David James; and her sister, Mary Rose Knopp.

Friends may call Sunday, July 8, 6-8 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Monday 10:00 AM with Pastor Theresa Shear, officiating. Burial will follow in Massena Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Massena Rescue Squad or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
