Massena woman charged with stealing purse from Rusty Wheel

GRAND LARCENY - MASSENA - Village police charged Courtney E. Lashomb, 21, of 82 Cook St., Massena, with grand larceny Saturday following an investigation into the theft of a wallet June 28 from The Rusty Wheel on Willow Street. She was released on an appearance ticket for Massena Village Court.

Sandra Sharpe told police she had been at the Rusty and had mistakenly left her wallet on the back porch when she went back inside the bar. She said her wallet was missing when she went back to the porch to retrieve it.

Lashomb, in a statement to police, admitted she had taken the wallet. She said she went through the wallet, took $56 in cash and then threw the wallet and its remaining contents on the lawn at St. Mary’s Church.

“I knew it was wrong to take someone else’s property, but I needed the money for gas and food since I didn’t have a job,” she said in the statement she signed for police.
