MASSENA Mr. Robert E. Kinnear, 81, of 221 Center Street, peacefully passed away Saturday evening, July 7, 2012 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past six years.
Robert was born July 2, 1931 in Madrid, New York the son of the late Howard H. and Florence M. Caleman Kinnear. He attended Massena schools. On May 24, 1949, he entered the US Army serving as an operating engineer. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for two years, before being honorably discharged on November 29, 1952. After returning home from the military he married Muriel E. Davis on September 1, 1955 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. William O. Thomas, officiating.
In 1953, he began his working career at ALCOA, having worked as an IG Welder and furnace man in the potrooms and remelt departments. He also worked construction for a short time. He was a member of the Gerald R. Roy AMVETS Post #4, the Earl J. Santimaw VFW Post #1143, the ALCOA 25 year club and a former member of the American Legion. Robert truly enjoyed fishing, traveling, riding around, puttering in his garage, and watching the rodeo on television.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Muriel; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two brother, Kenneth Caleman Kinnear on July 17, 2003 and Thomas Kinnear on March 15, 2007.
There will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
