OGDENSBURG - The Ogdensburg Public Library played host to an enlightening display of the night sky in their second floor auditorium Wednesday, giving children and parents a chance to take a guided tour of the heavens.

Bruce McClure, Norwood, directed the presentation, joking with his audience, “It’s hard to stay up at night to see the stars,” before ushering them inside the 10-foot high inflatable planetarium. Once inside viewers were treated to a 360 degree display of the stars and Milky Way.

Mr. McClure’s tour included anecdotes about the constellations and educated children how to identify the North Star. As many star gazers know, the North Star can be found by following the line drawn by the outer rim of the Big Dipper. The Big Dipper, however, is not a constellation, but is part of Great Bear.

A writer with Earth Sky Radio, Mr. McClure puts on 15-20 planetarium shows a year in Northern New York with the inflatable display. Wednesday’s event included two showings and was attended by approximately 30 people.
