Krystal B. Ralston, 19, of 240 Mechanic St., upper apartment, was charged by Watertown police at about noon Wednesday with criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.

It is alleged that she placed her hand over her 1-year-old daughter’s nose and mouth in an attempt to get the child to stop crying, causing the child to gasp for breath at 512 Mundy St.

She is due to answer the charge in City Court.
