PROBATION VIOLATION - MASSENA - Village police picked up Samuel O. Hurlbut, 19, of 66 Liberty Ave., Massena, on a probation violation Thursday afternoon. He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. He had been adjudicated as a a youthful offender and sentenced to probation in September 2011 in Massena Village Court. Since being placed on probation, Hurlbut reportedly tested positive for marijuana use on May 3, was unsatisfactorily discharged from a substance abuse outpatient program, was charged with third-degree burglary and had failed to report as directed to the probation department since Feb. 1.
