MASSENA - A second GameStop store has opened in Massena.

The Harte Haven Shopping Center location opened on Wednesday, according to store manager Renea M. Greiner. The new gaming and entertainment store joins an existing location at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall.

Ms. Greiner said the mall location will likely stay open until its lease runs out in January. She was excited the company’s corporate office had decided to reinvest in Massena with a store at Harte Haven.

“We worked really hard at that mall to build up a customer base,” she said. “It’s really nice that our corporate GameStop ... felt the need that Massena deserved a larger GameStop.”

She did not have an exact square footage for the new location, but said the back storage room was larger than the entire retail area the store had at the mall.

Ms. Greiner said she informed her customers of the new location through Facebook and has received a positive response. Several customers browsed through the store’s merchandise on Thursday afternoon.

The Harte Haven spot is in a more central location than the mall, she said. Locating outside the mall also allows the store to host midnight sales and have more control over its hours, she said. The new location is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

“I’m happy to have the (Massena) Arena near me because it brings a lot of foot traffic,” she said. “(Customers) are so happy we’re in town. People can walk here.”

With GameStop’s opening, Harte Haven is fully occupied for the first time in nearly 15 years, according to owner Michael Wachs. Radioshack, Rent-A-Center, T.J. Maxx have all moved from the mall to Harte Haven since 2010.
