OGDENSBURG Canton Street smells sweet with the opening of the Knot Just Donutz & More bakery.
The bakery, 601 Canton St., had what owner Stephen Ritchie called a quiet opening Saturday, but there has been nothing quiet about the publics response. On Monday, there was a steady stream of customers.
Linda Thompson, Ogdensburg, left with a box of a dozen doughnuts. Given her enthusiasm, one might have assumed she was carrying gold bars instead.
Oh, I think its good, Mrs. Thompson said. To me, Ogdensburg needs a bakery.
Mr. Ritchie said he was pleased with the bakerys first few days of business. He is monitoring which of the more than a dozen flavors of doughnuts, muffins and brownies are selling more than others.
That coffee-dunking staple, the plain doughnut, is moving slowly for now.
The long johns and the jelly-filleds are the most popular, Mr. Ritchie said.
Knot Just Donutz & Mores hours are 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
The bakery is closed Tuesdays.
Coffee, juices, bottled water, soft drinks, cakes, cookies and cupcakes also are available, and the business has a few tables for customers.
Mr. Ritchie employs eight part-time workers.
The bakerys telephone number is 393-3415.
