Canton Street in Ogdensburg is smelling sweet with the opening of the Knot Just Donutz & More bakery.
Located at 601 Canton St., the bakery had what owner Stephen Ritchie called a quiet opening on Saturday.
But there has been nothing quiet about the publics response. On Monday, there was a steady stream of customers.
Linda Thompson, of Ogdensburg, left with a box of a dozen donuts. Given her enthusiasm, one might have assumed she was carrying gold bars instead.
Oh, I think its good, Mrs. Thompson said. To me, Ogdensburg needs a bakery.
Mr. Ritchie said he was pleased with the bakerys first few days of business. He was observant enough to see which of the more than a dozen types and flavors of donuts, muffins and brownies are selling more than others.
That coffee-dunking staple, the plain donut, is moving slowly for now.
The long Johns and the jelly-filleds are the most popular, Mr. Ritchie said.
Knot Just Donutz & Mores hours of business are: Monday and Wednesday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The bakery is closed Tuesday. There are three four-seat tables for sit-down customers.
Coffee, juices, bottled water, soft drinks, cakes, cookies and cupcakes are also sold.
Mr. Ritchie employs eight part-time workers.
