National Journal has ranked the top House races in the United States, and two of them take place right here in the north country on Nov. 6.
Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, is facing off against Republican Matt Doheny for the 36th ranked race. The district makes up the vast majority of what one would consider the north country, including Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
And then, coming in at No. 69 is the race between Republican Rep. Richard Hanna and Democrat Dan Lamb. The sprawling district encompasses northern Oswego County, whose residents read the Watertown Daily Times and whose bucolic vistas are indistinguishable from those of the rest of the north country.
Also touching part of Oswego is a top-10 rematch between Republican Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle and former Democratic Rep. Dan Maffei.
