Lauryn E. Dana, 11, was welcomed into Gods family of angels on Thursday, July 19, 2012. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Lauryn was born March 22, 2001, in Malone, the daughter of Jeffrey Dana and the late Laurie (McCarthy) Dana. She was a student at St. Lawrence Central School who was looking to enter the sixth grade in the fall of 2012. Lauryn was a very active young lady, whose talents and skills were blossoming every day. She was taught to appreciate the art of dance, gymnastic, and quilting; however, she quickly mastered the ability to aggravate her sister, Caitlyn. Growing up on the family farm, she enjoyed the many farm animals, where she was able to win ribbons in cattle showing. However, when the four-wheeler was brought out, she was the one of the first to ride and have fun.
Lauryn is survived by her father, Jeffrey, of North Lawrence; paternal grandfather, Donald Dana; maternal grandparents, Robert and Marlene McCarthy of Moira; and her mothers mother, Mary and Carl Garrand of Brushton. Also surviving Lauryn are her aunts and uncles; Timothy and Gina McCarthy, of Brushton, their children and her cousins, Micaela and Colby; her uncle, Alan Dana, and Aunt Beth and Uncle Chris Kemp of North Lawrence; and special great aunt, Belle & Ronny DeBeer and cousin, Mary DeBeer of Moira.
Her mother Laurie, her sister, Caitlyn, and her grandmother, Janet Dana, predecease her.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. A combined funeral Mass for the Dana family will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Marys Church Brushton, with the Rev. Christopher Looby presiding, and the Rev. Gerry Giroux concelebrating the mass. Interment will follow in both St. Marys Cemetery and Sand Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of floral offerings, the family has requested that monetary donations in Lauryns honor be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at 25 Broadway 14 Floor, New York, NY 10004 . Lauryn was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of 4 and battled this disease throughout her short lifetime.
