One flown to Syracuse, two others injured in Hounsfield crash

DEXTER — Three people, one of whom was flown to a Syracuse hospital, were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 12:44 p.m. Saturday on Route 180 in the town of Hounsfield.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies said Margaret Fiorentino, 54, Baldwinsville, was driving south in a 2010 Toyota four-door sedan when she pulled off the side of the road and attempted to make a U-turn. Her car was hit by a southbound 2005 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle being driven by Dean P. Hurley, 43, Vestal.

Ms. Fiorentino suffered severe bleeding to the head and was taken by helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

Mr. Hurley and a passenger, Jolene M. Hurley, 43, were hospitalized with back and neck injuries, respectively. A second passenger, Ridge P. Hurley, 4, was not injured.

The investigation is continuing, deputies said, and charges may be forthcoming against Ms. Fiorentino.

A stretch of Route 180 between Route 3 and Military Road was closed for about a half-hour while crews cleared the scene.
