HOPKINTON — Donald E. Saulnier (Sonya) 74, of Hopkinton, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted to the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.

Donald was born in Colton, NY on May 29, 1938, son of Nicholas and Rose Saulnier. He worked as a lumberjack, painter, mechanic, and carpenter at numerous jobs throughout his life before retiring from the Carpenters Local 277 out of Syracuse. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, working in his garage, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his 2 daughters Bonnie Sochia and her husband Scott, and Brittany Wilson; granddaughters Calista and Donielle Sochia; a sister Kate Charleson and her husband Donald “Nig” Charleson; a sister-in-law Bonnie Wilson-Armstrong; a sister in law Joanne Strader widow of Paul Strader; a sister in law Melinda Weatherwax and her husband DeForrest Ellsworth; a brother in law Thomas F. Wilson and his wife Penny Wilson, one godchild Matthew Antwine, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Donald was pre-deceased by his wife Judith (Wilson) Sonya, a sister Esther, his brother John, and an infant son Edward John Sonya.

Following Donald’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a gathering at Donald’s home beginning at 1:oo PM on July 29, 2012 at 1135 County Route 56, Potsdam (Town of Hopkinton). Rev. Charles Gardner Pastor of the Hopkinton Congregational church will begin the gathering with thoughts and remembrances.
