Funeral services for David W. Roll, age 70, of County Route 6, Hammond, will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Frary Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Edwardsville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Roll passed away July 26, 2012 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Mr. Roll is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, David, of Hammond; four daughters, Sandra Scherrer, of Chesterfield, VA, Donna Sparks and her husband, Bobby, of Waco, TX, Patricia Roll, of Plainville, TX and Bonnie Roll, of Dallas, TX; two stepchildren, Chris Robida, of Hammond, and Cathi Smeader and her husband, John, of Woodlands, TX; one brother, Lester A. Roll, Jr., of Elma, NY; five grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
He was born on May 24, 1942 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Lester and Thelma Harttzel Roll. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1960. He married the former Mary Moran in East Aurora at the Lutheran Church on December 20, 1991. Mr. Roll started working as an auto mechanic with his brother and later owning and operating several Laundromats and dry cleaning businesses. He also had an appliance repair business. After his retirement, Mr. Roll moved to Black Lake, where he owned and operated Black Lake Marine, Cottages and Fishermans Landing with his sons.
Mr. Roll was a past treasurer of the Black Lake Chamber of Commerce and he was a member of the Black Lake Fish and Game Club. He loved the lake, fishing and working his bait and tackle shop. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
