Pierrepont dog control officer resigns

PIERREPONT - The town of Pierrepont is seeking a new dog control officer, following the resignation of Austin Garvin, who has held the position for the last several years.

The board voted unanimously with regrets to accept Mr. Garvin’s resignation.

“He’s done a good job while he’s been on,” said Town Councilman Dale McCormick, who added “with regrets” to his motion to accept the move.

Interested applicants are asked to send a letter of application to: Town Supervisor Thomas Latimer; 864 State Highway 68; Canton, NY 13617.

Mr. Latimer said prior to filling the position he would like to speak to other supervisors in the area about potentially sharing it.

“I want to talk to the supervisor in Colton, maybe we could go in together,” he said, noting that Mr. Garvin served as the dog control officer in both Colton and Pierrepont prior to resigning from both municipalities.

“I want to speak with Clare. I understand they’re looking too,” he said.

As for potential replacements, Mr. McCormick mentioned the last time they were seeking a dog control officer a woman from Potsdam applied for the position.

“Maybe she would be interested,” he said.

Mr. Latimer also said that he had heard from Russell’s dog control officer, who has expressed interest in the position.
