NORWOOD - Plans for the 23rd Norwood Lake Regatta scheduled for Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 are nearing completion.
Exciting watercross racing (snowmobile races on Norwood Lake), are scheduled. The Eastern Watercoss Association will again headline regatta events with pro and semi-pro races starting at 11 a.m. that Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 with children under 12 free.
Vendors, crafts, great food and legal beverages will be available in the large arena. In addition, a Bounce House and 60-foot obstacle course will be available for youngsters young and old. Vendor space is available for $5 admission and regatta t-shirts may be ordered by calling 353-7321.
Profits from the regatta benefit local residents in many ways such as this years projects that include fish stocking in Norwood Lake ($3,000), new roof on gazebo at Norwood beach ($1,000), providing lunch for 80-90 youngsters in this years NNCS summer recreation program ($600), painting Norwood Lake Association Recycling Center ($500).
Lake Association members volunteer their services each Saturday at the recycling center on Bernard Avenue, where they accept 75 percent of household waste from over 300 residents at no charge. Residents often tell the volunteers what a valuable service the recycling center is. Pepsi Cola Bottlers of Ogdensburg has served as major sponsor for 23 years, and local businesses assist by purchasing regatta program ads, which allow this major north country event to take place. The insurance alone costs over $3,000 for the two days of snowmobile racing.
