Talent lining up for Seniorama Talent Show

MASSENA - When organizers decided to add a talent show to this year’s roster of Seniorama events, they weren’t sure what to expect, but with only a few weeks left before the big event the show is beginning to take and organizers are pleased.

“The talent show is really coming along,” Diana C. Dufresne said. “It’s kind of taken on a life of its own.”

Ms. Dufresne said the show, which was originally scheduled to last for only an hour, already includes nearly 20 acts.

“It’s pretty full, but if anyone else wants to sign up it’s not too late,” Ms. Dufresne said. “We don’t want to turn anyone away.”

While categories have yet to be determined, she said prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded “in a number of categories.”

“We have some very well known local talent,” she said. “We really do have a nice, diverse group of performers including acts you may have never seen before.”

Talents will be judged by a panel of judges, who will account for 50 percent of the score, with the audience making up the other half.

If you would like to sign up for the talent show, which is open to people 50 and older from all over the county, contact Ms. Dufresene at 769-2500.

While the talent show is shaping up to be the highlight of this year’s event, Ms. Dufresene said the event has a whole is looking like another success.

“We’ve sold almost all of our booths,” she said. “I think we could maybe squeeze a couple more in, but we’re going to be at full capacity.”

The booths Ms. Dufresne was referring to are part of the event’s annual health an information fair, which features a wide range of vendors and exhibitors with al kinds of information that is pertinent to seniors.

The Seniorama at St. Lawrence Centre will also once again include a fashion show with clothing on display from Sears, JC Penney, Bon Ton and Maurice’s.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 23 at St. Lawrence Centre Arena, will also include entertainment by Danny Klebes and Country Rebels II.

“Everything that day is free,” she said, adding there is no admission charge to the event.

Attendees will also be given a $2 food coupon that may be used in the food court for the purchase of lunch or a snack.
