MASSENA - Just in time for the beginning of the school year The Salon at JC Penney is offering free hair cuts for students up through the sixth grade getting ready to return to school.

Salon team member Keisha Gurrola said the promotion is part of a back to school marketing campaign that not only benefits children in the community, but the 4-H Club as well.

While the salon will be offering free hair cuts all month, Wednesday kicked off the promotion with $1 for each hair cut performed being donated to 4-H, one of the store’s charities of the month.

“Our salon leader, Shannon, (Salon Manager Shannon McFaul) has set a goal to do 100 hair cuts today,” Ms. Gurrola said Wednesday morning.

The free hair cuts will continue throughout the month and are available to students entering grades UPK through six.

“We like for people to call for appointments, but we do accept walk-ins,” she said. “Our goal is to never say no to anyone.”

People who would like to make an appointment can call 764-5247.

The salon, she said, is open seven days a week during regular store hours.

When asked why it’s important to have a hair cut before school starts, Ms. Gurrola replied, “It’s a fresh new look. School is hard enough as it is, so fitting in is kind of a big deal.”

Other salon team members include Alexis Perry, Brittany Claire, Suellan Reed, Betty Beckstead and Sandy Trimm.

Customers throughout the entire store will also have an opportunity to contribute to the store’s charitable efforts by electing to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar with the proceeds being split between the Boys & Girls Club and 4-H.
