Foiled gamble drops john dinneen at Murray’s League

WADDINGTON - After Dan Dinneen had “left the gate open” by shooting a season worst round of 39, John Dinneen finally had an opportunity to beat his brother at the Murray’s Irish Inn Golf League. Things were actually going quite well after a birdie on #2. Then came the 5th hole and it might be said here that both John and Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy had similar traits.

Both owned a driving range and both were known to be gamblers on the golf course. Well, after hitting an enormous drive, John was in position for going for the green in two. Visions of an eagle must have danced in nis head and his partner, Mike Stoner probably asked in a Christie Brinkley tone “Well, are you going to go for it”? Yes sir, John let er fly toward the hole.

Three Pro V1 s in the lilly pads later, “Tin Cup” John walked off the 5th green with an 11 and yet another week without catching Dan. It should be noted that this news item came via one of the “On Course Correspondents” at the Twin Brooks Country Club.

High team points for the week: Fred Ruddy and Bernard “Fudgie” Runions - aka The Lost Ball Patrol - 8.5. If you are a big hitter off the tee and you cannot find your ball, check with Fred and Fudgie if they are in the area. They may have accidentally picked it up since they believe “it is impossible to hit a ball that far”.

Under 40 Club: Matt Rutherford-35, Doug Dumas-37, Tom Cameron Jr-37, Herb Duclan-38, Rick Magnusson-38, Sam LaBarge-38, Wayne Santamont-38, Frank Murray-38, Jason Blair-39, Dan Dinneen-39 and Brek Murray-39. When John’s 11 on #5 is reduced to a triple bogey 8 he also shot 39 for handicap purposes.

Birdie Brigade: John Dinneen-2, Dan Dinneen-4, Sam LaBarge-4, Bryan Mott-4, Brek Murray-4, Rick Mayette-6, Mike Stoner-7, Tom Cameron Jr-9, Craig Bogart-10, Doug Dumas-10, Gordy Fetterly-13, Colin Campbell-13, Dave Forsythe-14, Rick Magnusson-14 and Pete Thomas-14.

Division Leaders: A Side: Gary LaPoint/Gil Simons-80.0, Craig Bogart/Ryan Hayes-74.0, Colin Campbell/Pete Thomas-72.5. B Side Dan Dinneen/Jeff Stein-70.0, Rick Mayette/Bryan Mott-68.5, J.I. Mayette/Bruce Kavan-67.0.
