POTSDAM — Undercover police officers will use crosswalks and ticket drivers who don’t stop for them during the village of Potsdam Police Department’s crosswalk safety campaign until late August.

Offenders could be fined up to $100 plus court surcharges, said Police Chief Kevin A. Bates.

“We’ve issued more warnings,” Chief Bates said. “We’re trying to educate the motorists that they have to be aware of the pedestrians.”

Police plan to especially target the crosswalk next to the Roxie Theater on Main Street and several locations without walk lights on Market Street.
