Intermittent phone outages have been reported across Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties Thursday afternoon.
The Jefferson County Office of Fire and Emergency Management said the interruptions are affecting landline, cellular and Internet phone services.
911 service is working, although the office cautions this service may be intermittent as well.
Fire stations are being manned and the office states people without phone service should respond to their local station in an emergency.
According to Verizon Wireless representative John OMalley, a number of sites remain out in the area after a cut in a fiber-optics cable between Syracuse and Cicero was reported.
No time table has been announced for a return to service, but Verizon officials have contacted their land line team to obtain an estimate, he said.
