POTSDAM — Rachel Raven, FNP-C, has joined the medical staff at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, and is currently seeing patients at its Afterhours Clinic in the E.J. Noble Building, 80 East Main St. in Canton.

Ms. Raven holds a Master’s of Science in Nursing degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Health Professions in Syracuse, where she completed her family nurse practitioner training in May, 2011 with a minor in education. She received her Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Excelsior College in Albany in 2007.

She earlier earned an Associate in Applied Science degree from Jefferson Community College, SUNY, in Watertown, NY in 2006, and her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from St. Lawrence-Lewis County Board of Cooperative Education Services Southwest Technical Center in Gouverneur, NY in 2003.

Ms. Raven’s family nurse practitioner experience includes Carthage Area Hospital, where her primary practice site was the Edwards Knox School Based Clinic. She also practiced at Harrisville Family and School Based Health Clinics. Her family nurse practitioner student training included Edwards Health Clinic in Edwards, Gouverneur Pediatrics and Gouverneur OB/GYN in Gouverneur. She previously served as a Staff/Charge Nurse at E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur.

She practiced home health nursing throughout Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties as a self-employed private Medicaid nurse. Nurse practitioners are highly trained advanced practitioners who collaborate with physicians. Much like a family doctor, Family nurse practitioners work with patients throughout their lives, diagnosing illness, conducting exams, and prescribing medication. These nurses can also serve as their patients’ sole health care provider and run their own private practices.
