POTSDAM - Defending champion Dow Electric advanced to the semi-finals of the North Country Womens Summer Soccer playoffs on Thursday via a 4-2 win over Harrisville in a quarter-final round game played at Pine Street Park.
Niki Perkins anchored the winning attack with a pair of goals while Stephanie Cox and Ariana Czech struck for the others. Steph Collins made eight saves backstopping the win.
Dow Electric will now get set to take on Norwood-Norfolk next Tuesday. N-N reached the semi-finals by rallying to knock off the FC Freeze 2-1 in another first round game played at St. Lawrence Universitys J Lot Field.
N-N HALTS FREEZE
The FC Freeze, which had advanced to the playoff final the previous three seasons, opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game when Holly Fanning finished off a play set up by Alicia Jones.
N-N tied the game 22 minutes into the second half when Brittany Pierce connected for a breakaway goal. With time winding down, Pierce broke in alone on goal from the left wing then slid a short pass across the crease to Emily LaRoe, who knocked the ball into the back of the net with less than four minutes left in regulation.
Amanda Roi handled 12 shots working the N-N crease for the win while Alex Weston recorded five saves as the FC Freeze finished with an 8-3 record.
