Maples deny Rovers’ rally


RAYMONDVILLE - A steady comeback came up short as the Norfolk American Legion Post 925 Rovers dropped a 4-3 decision to the Ogdensburg Maples at Memorial Field on Wednesday.

The visiting Maples built a 4-0 lead with two-run outbursts in both the first and third innings before the Rovers countered with solo runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings. They advanced their first two batters in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to drive home the tying run.

Seth Pinkerton went the first four innings for the win, striking out two and walking one while allowing six hits. Geoff Baldwin went the final three frames to earn the save, scattering two hits and fanning three while surrending three walks.

Tyler Haas went the distance in taking the loss, allowing six hits and just two earned runs while striking out three and walking two.

Bryant Wentworth sparked the Maples offensively with a two hits, including an RBI-double in the third inning, and two runs scored. Brandon Arsenault also had an RBI-double in the third. Cavan LaRose stroked and RBI-double in the first. Andrew Cole also had a double while Pat Cosmo singled and scored a run.

For the Rovers, Jordan LaShomb had two hits, scored a run and drove in another. Brandon Noble singled and came around to score the other two Norfolk runs. Cody Smith launched a double while Troy Kovach, Ben Miller, David Phillips and Zach Brock each connected for solo singles.
