Moira teen dies in overnight accident


BANGOR - Malone-based state police said a 21-year-old Moira man was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident on County Route 8 in the town of Bangor.

Troopers said their investigation revealed a 2007 Suzuki SX4, operated by Cody D. O’Connor, 21, of Moira,was traveling westbound in front of a 2004 Hyundai Elantra, being operated by Justin C. Supernault, 21, of Brushtonat approximately 4:05 a.m. Saturday when the operators of both vehicles lost control on a slight curve in the road. O’Connor left the road and struck an earth embankment.

Supernault left the road and struck and earth embankment and then overturned, striking O’Connor’s vehicle.

Both vehicles were demolished as a result of the accident.

Supernault was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone and diagnosed with multiple facial fractures. He was later transferred to Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vt., where he is listed in stable condition.

O’Connor was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Brian Langdon and was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone for an autopsy which will be performed on a later date.

The accident is under investigation by the New York State Police in Malone and the Troop B Collision Reconstruction Unit.
