CANTON — St. Lawrence County Legislator Alex A. MacKinnon, R-Fowler, has asked County Attorney Michael C. Crowe to make a recommendation on the ownership of Emeryville Bridge, which is in disrepair.

Earlier this year, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a license to Hampshire Paper Co. for its hydroelectric facility on the Oswegatchie River in the town of Fowler that did not require it to maintain the bridge, whose ownership has been in question.

In 1983, the county’s then-Highway Superintendent John Cook built the bridge, Mr. MacKinnon said.

The county needs to determine who owns the bridge before it can be fixed, he said.
