HARASSMENT - MASSENA - Village police charged Darrell J. Herne, 22, of 9835 state Route 11, Winthrop, formerly of Massena, with second-degree harassment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance Thursday night following an incident at 10:01 p.m. Thursday.
Herne was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and was sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond.
A village police officer was westbound on East Orvis Street when he said he observed a male pushing a woman sitting on the bench and attempting to pull the female off the bench in front of Woodys General Store. He said he turned around and when he returned to scene saw Herne pushing the woman, identified as Stephanie Northrup, backwards and then picking her up in the air. Sgt. Adam Love exited his vehicle and took Herne into custody.
Herne also reportedly grabbed Ms. Northrups phone during the argument, throwing it on the floor and damaging it.
Police said when Herne was being taken into custody for the domestic incident he admitted he had nine Percoset pills, without a prescription, in his front pocket.
