Anita L. Henry


MASSENA – Mrs. Anita L. Henry, 89, of 24 Hough Road, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 9, 2012 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted on July 31st.

Anita was born January 2, 1923 in Cazaville, Quebec, the daughter of the late Alexander J. and Mary O. Langlois Castagnier. She first attended Canadian schools before moving to the Massena area where she attended schools in Louisville and Massena. On December 6, 1941, she married James Orin Henry at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Anita was a sales clerk at Becker’s Storre, Kauffman’s and Stetlan’s Boston Store for many years. She was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart and a 20-plus year member of TOPS. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, spending time with her family especially her grand and great grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida for 11 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, James Orin; her children, Wayne J. Henry and Deb Tredo of Massena; Lorraine A. and Tim Garriques of Syracuse; Dan and Maria Henry of Massena; and Scott and Patty of Massena. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Yvette and Aras Smith of Potsdam; Christine Davis and Loretta Roach both of Florida; and her brother, Roger J. Castagnier of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.

Anita was predeceased by two sisters, Robeo O’Connor on May 3, 1998 and Mary Loretta Castagnier at 18 months; and two brothers, Romuald A. Castagnier on March 26, 1982; and Alfred Castagnier on October 4, 2002. Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Sunday 4-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 12:00 NOON at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Jack L. Downs, celebrating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2, Massena.
