CJ’s and Ogdensburg Pepsi-The Place faced each other for the 15th time in the last five years, on Sunday evening at SUNY Potsdam’s Turf field, and the Potsdam based club won 3-1 to claim the North Country Men’s Summer Soccer League Title.

During the 15 years of an intense rivalry, the record between the two teams has been 7-7-1 and Potsdam has scored 33 goals and Ogdensburg has scored 32.

During the span, Ogdensburg has recorded two regular season titles and two postseason titles. Potsdam has three regular season and three postseason getting the edge with Sunday’s win.

In Sunday’s final, CJ’s used excellent ball control to deny Ogdensburg Pepsi-The Place.

CJ’s opened scoring in the 3:30 left in the first half, when Franco Bari sent a cross to the middle from the leftside of of the field at the 10 yardline and Willi Steinrotter sent a low shot into the net.

In the second half, Playoff MVP Mark Misiak scored the eventual game winning goal on a nice pass from Tony Betrus just eight minutes in. Bari made it 3-0 from Mark Howlett at the halfway mark of the half

Ogdensburg Pepsi-The Place’s Grant Prudhomme broke the shutout of Luke Seymour’s (three saves) with just under 10 minutes to play scoring off a Matt Gladle through ball.

Bill Gemmill had nine saves Pepsi-Place goal.

At halftime, Matt LeVac of Vino Vidi Vici and Kelly Geary of Lisbon-The Place II accepted Team Sportsmanship awards. Ben Hammond of the Hoot Owl and Grant Prudhomme of Ogdensburg Pepsi-The Plac were named Division II and Division I Offensive MVP’s. Frary’s Funeral Home goalie Nate Beaulieu and CJ’s Joe Knox were honored as the Division II and Division I Defensive MVP’s.

Travis Jordan, Colby Young and Ben Hammond of the Hoot Owl/North Country Savings Bank accepted the Division II Regular Season title award.
