POTSDAM - A 50-year-old Newton Falls motorcyclist has been transferred by helicopter to a Burlington hospital after being struck by a tractor trailer Thursday afternoon on state Route 72 in the town of Potsdam.
St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Department detectives said Jesse J. Ferguson, 28, of Potsdam was operating a 2003 International tractortrailer at 3:45 p.m. Thursday on state Route 72 in a southerly direction, passed a vehicle that waspartially parked on the highway and drove into the oncoming lane of travel and struck a northbound motorcycle driven by Ronald L. Swinyer. Mr. Swinyer was transported to CPH by Potsdam Rescue, treated for extensive leg and body trauma and was subsequently medivaced to Fletcher-Allen Medical Center in Burlington Vt. Ferguson suffered no injuries. The accident is under investigaiton and charges
are pending. deputies said. The sheriffs department was assisted at the scene by New York State Police, the Potsdam Fire Department and the Potsdam Rescue Squad.
