Southside Diner now open

MASSENA - After several weeks of renovations, the Southside Diner is now open at 396 South Main St. at the site of the former Italian on the Run.

Since opening for business earlier this month, the diner has been busy and continues to get busier.

“It’s been steady and breakfast is really starting to pick up,” according to manager Danielle L. Bevins, whose mom, Belle, owns the diner.

And while the diner has only been open for a couple of weeks, Ms. Bevins said they’re already getting regular customers.

“We get a lot of the same customers,” she said. “People like the atmosphere in here. We did a lot of work and it looks nice.”

Among the work completed inside the diner is a service window that connects the kitchen to the dining room, a counter with seats, new floors and the mounting of a large flat screen TV on the wall.

When asked what seems to popular so far, Ms. Bevins didn’t hesitate to respond.

“We’ve had a lot of compliments on the french toast. The bread is really big,” she said.

Ms. Bevins said the diner is also selling a lot of paninis.

“You can’t really get those anywhere around here,” she said.

Among the paninis they offer is one they call “The Southside Panini.” That sandwich features roast beef, caramelized onions, asiago cheese and dijon mayonnaise.

In addition to offering breakfast all day, the diner is open from 6 a.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday, meaning they’re open 24 hours on both Fridays and Saturdays.

“We had a small crowd on the first Friday and then a little bit bigger on Saturday,” she said. “I think once people figure out we’re open 24 hours on the weekends things will really pick up.

Southside Diner is closed on Mondays and open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, also closing at 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Delivery, with a minimum order of $10, is available for $1 in the greater Massena area.

For deliver call 705-4202.
