CANTON When it comes to the future of his business, Michael J. Frazer sees plenty of growth on the horizon.
This fall he plans to construct a 4,800-square-foot addition to the one-story building at 6196 Route 11 thats housed Frazer Computing Inc. for the past three years.
The companys architect, Rebecca N. Weld, Potsdam, is scheduled to discuss the $450,000 project at the Canton Town Planning Board meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 in the municipal building.
Were growing like crazy, Mr. Frazer said. Our existing building will be overflowing with employees before we can get this addition built.
The high-tech company makes and sells a computer software program that independent used-car dealers use to run their businesses.
The software is used to track vehicles, manage vehicle photos and conduct online marketing. The programs also assist with billing, accounting, sales records and printing of government forms.
Some dealers use the software to track repossessions and customer payments.
Three years ago, 5,473 car dealers were using Frazer software, a number thats climbed to 8,812, Mr. Frazer said. Customers reside in all 50 states.
So far this year, hes hired seven employees, and he expects similar growth in 2013. Annual payroll for the 34-member staff exceeds $1.4 million.
He said more building expansions are on the horizon at the seven-acre site between Canton and Potsdam.
We have plenty of room to grow and grow and grow, Mr. Frazer said. After we build this one, were hoping to build another one.
He credited the companys success to high-quality employees hes found in the north country.
Were gaining market share because were the best, and we keep plugging away, Mr. Frazer said. We look for smart, personable people.
Prospective hires are required to take an aptitude test as part of the application process.
We gave the test to 50 people, and four were hired. Were very picky, Mr. Frazer said. We need to be smart.
The companys software programmers are in the process of designing and writing code to create and improve the software. Employees who handle customer support have strong communication and technical skills, he said.
