MASSENA- Mrs. Margarita H. Hamelin, 85, 89 Grove Street, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the St. Regis Nursing Home where she had been a patient since April 13, 2011.
Margarita was born on December 12, 1926 in Chile, South America, the daughter of the late Luis A. and Hortensia Vidaurre. She came to the Massena at the age of five. She went to the Pine Grove School and Massena High School. On July 19, 1986, she married Lionel J. Hamelin at St. Marys Catholic Church with Rev. Roland Gonya officiating. He predeceased by her on March 30, 2008.
Margarita first did house cleaning and then was a salesclerk at M. J. Fishman Company for twenty years. After their closing she worked at Twin Rivers Federal Credit Union. She enjoyed drawing, gardening, reading, dancing, and loved music, especially Spanish music. She enjoyed spending the winters in Holiday, Florida with her late husband Lionel.
Margarita is survived by a step son, David and Phyllis Hamelin of Moira; two step daughters, Nancy and Gerald Raymo of Florida, and Linda Hamelin of Syracuse; six grandchildren; and a niece Lisa Charter of Virginia.
She is predeceased by a brother, Albert Vidaurre; and a nephew, Marco Vidaurre.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery, Massena, with Rev. Scott D. Fobare, officiating.
