CANTON - A shed behind the Edward C. Seymour Veterans of Wars Post 1231 caught fire early Thursday morning but a quick response by the Canton Fire Department limited the damage to the shed and an adjacent gazebo. Firefighters responded to the 34 Gouverneur St. club around 6:15 a.m. to find the shed completely engulfed. A nearby shed on the Law Lane property was singed and the vinyl siding on the south side of the VFW Post was melted. The fire is under investigation. Above, Melinda Whitty douses the smoldering rubble with the assistance of fellow volunteer firefighters. The structures were insured. (Paul Mitchell Photo)
