POTSDAM - With Labor Day right around the corner and summer coming to an end, the Potsdam Community Band will host a free outdoor concert Sunday on the front lawn at Potsdam Central School.
Admission for the 2 p.m. show is free, and attendeesare asked to bring their own seating.
Were calling it Musicals, Marches and More, according to Theresa A. Witmer, who directs the band. Weve got some show tunes from a number of different shows and marches by John Philip Sousa, Karl King and a couple others.
As for the other, Ms. Witmer said, Were doing an overture thats a very good piece, a variation of Scarborough Fair and a Latin-flavored piece called Serenata.
Ms. Witmer said the band is made up of approximately 60 musicians from in and around Potsdam.
Its pretty regional, she said. Weve got people from Crane, we have people who are hobbyists and people who are bringing their instruments out for the first time in while and dusting off their cases.
In addition to a wide range of talent in the band, Ms. Witmer also said the age of the musicians varies greatly.
We have musicians from the age of 17 to in their 70s, she said. We have several musicians who are in their 70s.
What amazes me is even though we have all these different groups, everyone is serious about making great music, doing this together and putting on a good show, she said.
Ms. Witmer said shes expecting nice weather this weekend, but in the event of rain, the concert will be moved to inside the school.
