The Ogdensburg Police Department’s telephone system is about to get a boost that will make it easier and quicker to make calls inside and outside headquarters.

The department will spend $9,967 to pay for the installation of a new switching system. The current setup is 11 years old, breaks down and has parts that are difficult to impossible to find.

“It’s the heart of the department’s communications system,” said Chief Richard J. Polniak Jr. “And it’s hard to get parts anymore.”

ADR Telecom, Ogdensburg, will do the installation, which will be done in the department’s mechanical room. All 20 of the department’s telephones will also replaced.

“I’m expecting it all to be put in next week,” Mr. Polniak said Friday.
