POTSDAM - All four of the Save-A-Lot grocery stores in the north country are independently owned and wont be among 22 corporate stores slated to be closed.
Jeffrey L. Proulx said his stores in Potsdam, Gouverneur, Ogdensburg and Tupper Lake are not slated for closure. Next week, Mr, Proulx is scheduled to open another store in Bath.
Supervalu Inc., owner of Albertsons and Save-A-Lot grocery store chains, has announced it will close 60 stores, including 22 Save-A-Lots.
All of the stores that are closing are in the Pacific Northwest division. Those are all corporate owned, Mr. Proulx said.
Nationwide, about two thirds of the Save-A-Lot stores are independently owned, Mr. Proulx said.
Sales at the north country Save-A-Lots have increased by 10 percent compared to last year, he said.
