Ontario man sentenced to 11 years in prison for Stockholm man’s killing

BROOKDALE - A Cornwall, Ont., man has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for his role in the attempted robbery and killing of Daniel P. Simonds in 2008 in Brookdale, a smll hamlet in the town of Stockholm.

Anson Edwards, 24, was sentenced Aug. 24 in U.S. District Court, Utica. He had been charged in an indictment with conspiracy to engage in a Hobbs Act robbery; he also had been charged in an information with possessing a firearm, and aiding and abetting the possession of a firearm, during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. He pleaded guilty March 19.

He admitted that early on May 13, 2008 he and others planned to rob Mr. Simonds of a large quantity of Canadian-grown marijuana and money he had stored at his residence at 649 Porter Lynch Road, Brookdale.

In furtherance of this plan, some of them went to Mr. Simonds’s residence and engaged in a physical confrontation with him. During the confrontation, Mr. Simonds was shot once by another assailant. He died later that day at a hospital in Vermont.

Previously sentenced in the case were:

n Brian J. Latulipe, 28, of Bombay, to 168 months’ imprisonment.

n Kaientanoron L. Swamp, 29, of Snye, Que.,, to 151 months.

n Bryan Herne, aka “Wildcat,” 31, of Hogansburg, to 135 months.

n Alan R. Jacobs, 36, Hogansburg, to 20 years.

n Derek Cooke, 31, Snye, Quebec, to 151 months.

In addition, Chad Edwards, 22, also of Cornwall, admitted his involvement May 3 and is due to be sentenced Sept. 28.
